We have an exciting opportunity within our Engineering Team for a colleague to join us as a Fleet Performance Engineer in Stratford.

The role

In this dynamic and varied role, your primary focus will be analysing and enhancing the operational performance of Greater Anglia's Class 745 and 755 fleets. You'll leverage continuous improvement methodologies, document your findings, and deliver against agreed actionable insights.

Analyse the measurable operational performance of an assigned fleet 745/755 against key performance indicators stipulated by the National Rail Contract (NRC):

  • Delay Minutes
  • Cancellations (TOC-on-self) Implementing a robust, well-documented approach to continuous improvement to optimize company performance against these indicators.
  • In addition, you will Supporting Significant Performance Incident Reviews (SPIRs) by offering documented analyses in line with the requirements of the Fleet Performance Manager.
  • Collect and contribute relevant data to KPIs and reports that effectively monitor fleet performance, facilitating the identification of best practice initiatives and actionable improvement strategies within the continuous improvement process.
  • Establish positive and collaborative working relationships with various stakeholders, including Train Service Delivery (TSD), Fleet Control, Engineering Technical Teams, Senior Management, Third-Party Maintenance suppliers, Network Rail, Sister Train Operating Companies, Other Train Operating Companies, Strategic Suppliers, and Partners.
  • Safeguard Power BI dashboards and metrics that illustrate the performance of the fleet Class 745/755 and presenting these findings during reviews as appropriate.
  • Adhere to a customer-centric approach to meet the goals of the Head of Fleet North & South, TSD Performance, and Network Rail.
  • Assuming ownership of post-incident review processes for the designated fleet Class 745/755, overseeing resultant actions and ensuring their completion for both Initial Performance Incident Reviews (low operational impact) and Ordinary Performance Incident Reviews (medium operational impact).
  • Manage Decision Support Tool procedures for the assigned fleet Class 745/755, ensuring the existence and maintenance of relevant fault mitigation procedures to a high standard of quality and accuracy.
  • Report opportunities for Performance-Based Fee evidence submission to the Fleet Performance Manager.
  • Maintain Technical Call Handler competency for emergency Fleet Support Technician coverage.
  • Provide peer-to-peer coaching and assistance to wider Engineering colleagues in areas pertaining to the Fleet Systems Engineer skillset.

What we are looking for 

We are looking for colleagues who have a technical understanding of fleet, operational performance, and an effective understanding of wider railway operation. Someone who can develop collaborative working relationships internally across GA, with our maintenance providers and Network Rail. 

The successful colleagues will ideally be working towards a Chartered Engineer and Member of IMechE or IET. You will also have HNC/HND in an Engineering related discipline. 

You will have efficient communication and interpersonal skills, and a detailed knowledge of rolling stock design and maintenance.
