Kickstart Your Career with Greater Anglia!
Are you looking to launch your career in a dynamic and supportive environment? Greater Anglia, a key player in the railway network from London Liverpool Street to the East of England, is offering an exciting opportunity to join our team. With our new, modern, and environmentally friendly trains, now is the perfect time to join us as we elevate customer travel experience.
Join Our Team as an Analytics Engineer at One Stratford Place/Hybrid.
The Role
We are seeking an Analytics Engineer at Greater Anglia to play a pivotal role in leveraging data to address operational and commercial challenges. This hybrid role combines aspects of data analysis, data engineering, and data science, involving designing analytics models, building data pipelines, developing reporting tools, and helping departments like Customer Experience, Train Service Delivery, and Fleet Engineering use data to drive better decisions.
Working within our expanding Central Data Platform built on Microsoft Fabric, you will collaborate with a small, agile team to develop innovative solutions, shape best practices, and explore advanced techniques including Machine Learning, LLMs, and Operational Research. The ideal candidate will be proactive, curious, and capable of translating high-level objectives into impactful data solutions that drive efficiency and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Proactively identify and frame operational and commercial challenges, develop hypotheses, and build analytical models to unlock insights and support better decision-making.
- Collaborating across departments to identify high-impact use cases, shape analytical approaches, and improve processes through data-driven initiatives.
- Applying modern technologies such as AI, machine learning, and automation tools to enhance operational efficiency and customer experience, ensuring solutions are well-engineered and integrated into workflows.
- Developing and maintaining robust data assets, including building data pipelines, dashboards, and automating reporting processes in partnership with departmental analysts.
- Managing GA’s data platform and master datasets within Microsoft Fabric, ensuring data quality, integrity, and accessibility through effective ingestion, transformation, and documentation.
- Implementing best practices in data governance, security, and DataOps, promoting data literacy, and help scale sustainable data management practices across the organisation.
We’re Looking For Candidates Who:
- Have effective foundational data skills – experience building clean, maintainable data transformations and visualisations (Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or similar tools), and literacy with relevant languages such as SQL and Python.
- Have a curious mindset, being able to frame open-ended problems, generate hypotheses, and creatively reshape data to support insight and action.
- Are able to communicate and collaborate effectively with both functional and technical stakeholders, translating their high-level needs into structured solutions.
- Are an adaptable and proactive learner with the ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage multiple projects in a fast-changing environment.
- Bring team spirit and your unique self to help foster a positive, collaborative environment.
- A STEM or quantitative degree is helpful, but not essential. We’re open to candidates from all backgrounds who can demonstrate analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.
- Bonus experience in Microsoft Fabric, semantic modelling, automation tools, or rail industry data (e.g. TRUST, LENNON, TD feeds) is always welcome.
